NEW BALANCE TRAINERS AND SHOES: THE DIFFERENCES

New Balance does things differently. They give shoes numbers instead of names to create a better sense of equality between the products. They design New Balance shoes with a wider toe box than the models of their competitors, giving your feet extra room to help with stability. They tend to put a thicker midsole in the shoes to give better shock-absorbency. More and more they are being picked by the biggest pros across the sports, whether that’s football’s Sadio Mané or Raheem Sterling, Tennis’ Coco Gauff, NBA MVP Kawhi Leonard, or a whole host of the best track and field athletes around. But New Balance hasn’t always been so favored. The journey has been long.

THE STORY OF NEW BALANCE TRAINERS

Although the New Balance brand was founded way back in 1906 in Boston, at first the company only manufactured arch supports, which were designed to improve shoe fit. The inspiration for these came from the founder’s chickens, which he noticed had perfect balance thanks to their three-clawed feet. The New Balance name owes itself to the brand’s attempt to find this perfect balance, and in the 1930s, they started making shoes, especially for baseball players and track and field athletes. New Balance shoes didn’t take off on a global scale until the 70s when the company was bought by an investor who saw the opportunity when jogging became hugely popular in the Boston area and he up-scaled to meet the demand. The famous 574 model came out in 1988 when New Balance had made a name for themselves world over. Initially designed as a technical running shoe to offer superior comfort, it has been re-released countless times over the years since and is now the iconic casual style it is today. That has been a trend of most New Balance trainers, both the men’s and women’s varieties. Great sports shoes that become greats on the street.
